ASQ – CAHO

The ASQ–CAHO Executive Fellowship is a six-month, practice-based learning programme designed for healthcare professionals who want to strengthen their ability to lead quality and patient safety initiatives — and drive measurable improvement within their own organisation.

Jointly offered by ASQ South Asia and the Consortium of Accredited Healthcare Organisations (CAHO), the Fellowship combines structured learning, workplace application, mentoring, and a real-world improvement project. Healthcare quality improvement requires more than knowledge of tools and methodologies — it requires the ability to identify the right problems, analyse data, engage teams, implement change, and sustain the result.

01_MONTH Establishing the BaselineQuality fundamentals - the patient's perspective - cost of poor quality

Quality fundamentals. Understanding value as the patient defines it, what patients truly want, and how to calculate the cost of poor quality.

Current challenges. Navigating modern healthcare pressures, including antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and patient satisfaction metrics.

02_MONTH Frameworks for Problem SolvingProject selection - gap analysis - PDCA - DMAIC - DMADV

Project selection & definition. Effective project management and gap-analysis technique.

Methodologies. Working mastery of PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) and the DMAIC / DMADV structures for process improvement.

03_MONTH Diagnostics & StandardizationRoot cause analysis - process mapping - SOPs

Root cause analysis. Fishbone diagrams, the 5 Whys, graphical analysis and decision trees.

Process mapping. Building robust healthcare process maps and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

04_MONTH Efficiency & MeasurementValue stream mapping - NABH indicators - MSA

Value Stream Mapping. Deep waste analysis to eliminate non-value-adding activity.

Healthcare metrics. Reading NABH indicators and conducting Measurement System Analysis (MSA).

05_MONTH Risk Management & LeadershipFMEA - CAPA - change management

FMEA & CAPA. Proactive risk management through Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, and executing corrective / preventive actions.

Leadership. Situational leadership, team dynamics, and the fundamentals of change management.

06_MONTH Advanced Control & SustainabilityEthics & negotiation - SPC - 5S

Soft skills. Ethics, negotiation and conflict resolution, including managing workplace tension.

Efficiency tools. Time management, change-over reduction, and cycle-time reduction.

Every fellow leads or co-leads a real improvement project inside their own organisation - guided by a mentor, and presented to a review panel at the close of the programme.

Who is this Fellowship designed for?

Doctors, nurses, allied health professionals, and quality, operations or administrative professionals involved in patient safety, operational efficiency, or healthcare improvement. No prior Six Sigma or formal quality certification is required.

What is the format and time commitment?

Six months, live and virtual, with two 3-hour sessions each month - roughly six hours monthly outside of independent Capstone work.

What exactly is the Capstone Improvement Project?

A real quality or patient safety challenge inside your own organisation, which you identify, analyse, and improve using the frameworks taught each month - with a mentor's guidance - and present to a review panel in month six.

What does the Rs 30,000 fee include?

All live sessions, mentoring for your Capstone project, tools, templates and frameworks, and assessment by the Faculty & Assessment Panel. GST is applied at checkout.

Will I receive a certification or formal recognition?

Yes. Fellows who complete the programme and Capstone project earn joint Executive Fellow recognition from ASQ and CAHO, conferred at CAHOCON 2027.

How many seats are available per cohort?

Cohorts are intentionally small to keep the mentoring ratio high. Seats are confirmed in the order payment is received.
